ويقصفنا المجرم الكيماوي ( ضحايانا فقط اكثر من سكان غزة ) الذي صافحه الخنزير الخائن هنية منذ ليلة الامس( بعد ساعات قليلة من مجزرة بوتين في حمص ) ويقصف اهلنا في كل الشمال السوري ( سقوط عدد من الشهداء في دارة عزة ممن اعرفهم من الناس شخصيا , ويسقط العشرات منذ ليلة البارحة بقذائف المدفعية التي باركها هؤلاء الخنازير في غزة ) !

واعتقد انها حدثت للغاية نفسها ايضا

أزهر علي المرشح العمالي البريطاني للبرلمان عن دائرة روتشديل

إيلاف من لندن: اعتذر مرشح حزب العمال البريطاني المعارض في الانتخابات الفرعية في روتشديل عن التصريحات التي أدلى بها بشأن إسرائيل.
وقال أزهر علي في تسجيل سري خلال اجتماع محلي للحزب حصلت عليه صحيفة "ميل أون صنداي"، إن إسرائيل "سمحت" بالهجوم المميت الذي نفذه مسلحون من حماس في 7 تشرين الأول (أكتوبر).

وقال السيد علي إن ادعاءاته كانت "مسيئة للغاية وجاهلة وكاذبة".

قصص مقترحة​

• الهجوم على رفح "مفتاح النصر" لإسرائيل، وحماس تحذّر من "مجزرة عالميّة"

ودعا حزب المحافظين، حزب العمال إلى تعليق حملت الانتخابية الفرعية وإزالة عضوية السيد علي في الحزب.

تعليقات خاطئة
وقال بات مكفادين، منسق الحملة الوطنية لحزب العمال، لـ(بي بي سي) يوم الأحد، إن تعليقات علي "كانت خاطئة تمامًا" ولا تمثل وجهة نظر الحزب.
كما قال مكفادين لشبكة (سكاي نيوز) إن أزهر علي سيظل مرشح حزب العمال في الانتخابات الفرعية في روتشديل.
وفي التسجيل، زُعم أن السيد علي قال: "يقول المصريون إنهم حذروا إسرائيل قبل 10 أيام... حذرهم الأميركيون قبل يوم من حدوث شيء ما.. لقد خلعوا الأمن عمدا، وسمحوا بتلك المذبحة التي أعطتهم الضوء الأخضر ليفعلوا ما يريدون".
هجوم حماس
وكان مسلحون من حركة حماس الفلسطينية اخترقوا الحدود في غزة وتسللوا إلى جنوب إسرائيل في 7 تشرين الأول (أكتوبر)، مما أسفر عن مقتل أكثر من 1200 شخص - معظمهم من المدنيين - واحتجاز حوالى 250 آخرين كرهائن.
ومنذ ذلك الحين، تقول وزارة الصحة في القطاع التي تديرها حماس إن الهجمات الإسرائيلية أسفرت عن مقتل أكثر من 28100 شخص في غزة - معظمهم من النساء والأطفال.
وواجهت السلطات الإسرائيلية انتقادات بسبب الإخفاقات الأمنية وظهرت تقارير تفيد بأن مصر حذرت أجهزة المخابرات من احتمال حدوث أعمال عنف في الأيام التي سبقت الهجوم. ووصف رئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتانياهو التقارير بأنها "كاذبة تماما".
وقال المرشح أزهر علي في بيان: "أعتذر بلا تحفظ للجالية اليهودية عن تعليقاتي التي كانت مسيئة للغاية وجاهلة وكاذبة".
وأضاف أن "الهجوم الإرهابي المروع الذي نفذته حماس كان مسؤولية حماس وحدها، وما زالوا يحتجزون رهائن يجب إطلاق سراحهم".
إزالة عضوية علي
وإذ ذاك، دعا رئيس حزب المحافظين ريتشارد هولدن زعيم حزب العمال السير كير ستارمر إلى "إزالة عضوية السيد علي في حزب العمال على الفور وتعليق حملة حزب العمال" قبل الانتخابات الفرعية المقرر إجراؤها في 29 فبراير.
وقال: "مرة تلو الأخرى، يقول السير كير ستارمر إنه غيّر حزب العمال. ومرة تلو الأخرى نرى أن هذا ببساطة غير صحيح".
وقال علي في اعتذاره إن يوم 7 تشرين الأول (أكتوبر) كان "أكبر خسارة في حياة اليهود في يوم واحد منذ المحرقة، ويعيش اليهود في المملكة المتحدة وفي جميع أنحاء العالم في خوف من تصاعد معاداة السامية".
وقال عضو مجلس مقاطعة لانكشاير إنه يرغب في "الاعتذار بشكل عاجل للزعماء اليهود عن تعليقاتي غير المبررة".
مجلس نواب اليهود
وقال مجلس نواب اليهود البريطانيين إنه كان سيدعو حزب العمال إلى استبدال السيد علي كمرشح في الانتخابات الفرعية لو لم يفت الأوان للقيام بذلك.
ووصف مجلس الإدارة تعليقاته السابقة بأنها "مشينة ولا تغتفر"، وقال: "من الواضح لنا أن السيد علي لا يعتذر بسبب شعور حقيقي بالندم".
وأضاف: "على الرغم مما قاله في اعتذاره، فإننا لا نرى كيف يمكننا التعامل معه في هذا الوقت، ونعتقد أن الجماعات الطائفية اليهودية الرائدة الأخرى ستشعر بالمثل".
يشار إلى أن عددا من أعضاء البرلمان وأعضاء المجالس من حزب العمال البريطاني بسبب تردد الحزب في البداية في الدعوة إلى وقف إطلاق النار.
وكان هناك جدل أيضاً بعد أن بدا السير كير وكأنه يزعم في تشرين الأول (أكتوبر) أن لإسرائيل الحق في قطع الكهرباء والمياه عن غزة، على الرغم من أنه قال لاحقاً إنه يدعم بدلاً من ذلك حق إسرائيل في الدفاع عن النفس.

CIA director makes secret visit to Israel for Gaza talks​

CIA Director William Burns arrived in Israel on Thursday for an unannounced visit for talks with top Israeli officials, according to local media, Anadolu reports.
Burns met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad chief David Barnea following his arrival, Israeli Channel 12 reported.
The reason for the visit was not yet clear, but Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said it was linked to Netanyahu’s refusal to send a security delegation to Egypt to continue talks for a hostage swap deal with Hamas.
There was no comment yet from Netanyahu’s office on the report.
Officials from Israel, Egypt, Qatar and the US held a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss a Gaza cease-fire and hostage-prisoner swap between Hamas and Israel.
Last week, Hamas proposed a three-stage plan for a Gaza cease-fire that includes a 135-day pause in the fighting in return for the release of hostages, according to a Palestinian source.

Netanyahu, however, rejected Hamas’ offer for a cease-fire and vowed to continue his Gaza war until a “crushing victory” over the Palestinian group.
Israel believes that 134 Israelis are being held in Gaza after the Israeli army managed on Monday to free two hostages in Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 Hamas attack, killing at least 28,663 and causing mass destruction and shortages of necessities. Nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.
The Israeli war on Gaza has pushed 85% of the territory’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which in an interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.

CIA Director William Burns arrived in Israel on Thursday for an unannounced visit for talks with top Israeli officials, according to local media.
Burns met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Mossad chief David Barnea following his arrival, Israeli Channel 12 reported.
The reason for the visit was not yet clear, but Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said it was linked to Netanyahu’s refusal to send a security delegation to Egypt to continue talks for a hostage swap deal with Hamas.
There was no comment yet from Netanyahu’s office on the report.
Officials from Israel, Egypt, Qatar and the US held a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss a Gaza cease-fire and hostage-prisoner swap between Hamas and Israel.
Last week, Hamas proposed a three-stage plan for a Gaza cease-fire that includes a 135-day pause in the fighting in return for the release of hostages, according to a Palestinian source.
Netanyahu, however, rejected Hamas’ offer for a cease-fire and vowed to continue his Gaza war until a “crushing victory” over the Palestinian group.
Israel believes that 134 Israelis are being held in Gaza after the Israeli army managed on Monday to free two hostages in Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip.
Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 Hamas attack, killing at least 28,663 and causing mass destruction and shortages of necessities. Nearly 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.
The Israeli war on Gaza has pushed 85% of the territory's population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which in an interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.

أفادت معلومات الـ “MTV” من فرنسا بأن الرئيس الفرنسي ايمانويل ماكرون اكد في اتصال هاتفي اجراه مع رئيس الوزراء الاسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو على اهمية تجنب انفجار في المنطقة وخصوصا توسيع الحرب في لبنان والبحر الاحمر مذكرا بالرسائل التي نقلتها فرنسا بهذا الخصوص لكل زعماء المنطقة وخصوصا ايران، وكرر ماكرون ضرورة تطبيق القرار ١٧٠١ بين لبنان واسرائيل.
واعتبر ماكرون ان “هناك ضرورة قصوى للتوصل الى وقف اطلاق نار من دون تأخير وان يتم التوصل الى اتفاق على وقف اطلاق نار يضمن اخيرا حماية لكل المدنيين وادخال المساعدات العاجلة بكثافة خصوصا تلك المتعلقة بالطوارئ . واشار بيان الرئاسة الفرنسية نقلا عن ماكرون أن الحصيلة الانسانية والوضع الانساني غير مقبولة وغير مسموحة وان العمليات العسكرية يجب ان تتوقف”.
وشدد ماكرون على “معارضة بلاده القوية لهجوم اسرائيلي على رفح يؤدي الى كارثة انسانية ذات بعد جديد كأي تهجير قسري للسكان، وهذا الامر سيشكل خرقا للقانون الدولي الانساني ويخلق مخاطر اضافية للتصعيد في المنطقة”.
وشدد ماكرون على ضرورة ادخال المساعدات الانسانية بكثافة للشعب الذي يعاني من حالات طوارئ، لافتا الى ان هذا الوضع غير مبرر ،ودعا ماكرون الى فتح معبر اشدود والطريق البري المباشر من الاردن وكل نقاط العبور.
ودعا الرئيس الفرنسي الى “تجنب اتخاذ اجراء يؤدي لتصعيد غير مضبوط في القدس والضفة الغربية، وجدد ادانة بلاده للاستيطان الاسرائيلي داعيا الى تفكيك المراكز غير الشرعية ومن ضمنها التي تٌعتبر ضمن القانون الاسرائيلي وطالب اسرائيل بوضع حد للخروقات التي ارتكبها بعض المستوطنين ضد السكان الفلسطينيين”.
واكد الرئيس الفرنسي أن “حل الدولتين وانشاء دولة فلسطنية فقط يشكلان ضمانة لحاجات اسرائيل الامنية وللطموحات الشرعية للشعب الفلسطيني”.


وأفادت مصادر فرنسية بأن المبعوث الرئاسي جان ايف لودريان سيعود الى بيروت قريبا وهو يواصل مشاوراته المكثفة مع السلطات المحلية ومع دول المنطقة ومع الولايات المتحدة وهناك تطابق في وجهات النظر بين الاطراف الخارجية للضغط على اللاعبين المحليين. وتشير المصادر الى انه من الملاحظ ان ذلك اظهر نتائج كما حدث بالنسبة للتجديد لقائد الجيش العماد عون.
ولفتت المصادر الى ان “الوزير سيجورنيه اكد في لبنان على ضرورة الخروج من الشغور الرئاسي”.
وأشارت المصادر الى ان “الخطوات التي اقدمت عليها فرنسا من خلال مقترحاتها تم تنسيقها مع الولايات المتحدة منذ البداية، معتبرة ان اللاعبين فرنسا وواشنطن يسعيان الى تهدئة الوضع على الحدود والتطلع الى مرحلة ما بعد الحرب واعتبرت المصادر ان وساطة اميركية بحت لا يوجد لديها فرص للنجاح لوحدها لان موقف الأميركيين اقرب الى اسرائيل وفرنسا لها دور تاريخي قوي جدا في لبنان، اذا مقاربة فرنسا ومقاربة الولايات المتحدة متكاملة، وعلى هذا الاساس نعمل مع الطرفين، كما انه لا يوجد لدينا في المنطقة مع الاطراف نفس المواقف سواء بالنسبة لوقف اطلاق النار في غزة، اوالتحركات في البحر الاحمر، وفرنسا تعتبر ان موقفها متوازن نسبيا وهو غير متطابق مع الولايات المتحدة وهذا معروف في المنطقة وفي لبنان”.
وردا على سؤال يتعلق بحزب الله، أشارت المصادر إلى ان “الحزب لاعب محوري، وهناك وعي من قبل الجانبين على الحدود بان الحرب ممكنة وستكون كارثية. وهناك مصلحة ان يكون هناك حوار للتهدئة وهناك تفهم انه من الافضل الاستعداد لوقف اطلاق نار على الحدود. وشددت المصادر على ان التحرك الفرنسي ياتي استجابة لطلب الطرفين ببذل الجهود لتجنب حرب مفتوحة”.

Satellite images published Friday confirm construction is underway on what appears to be a large security enclosure in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula adjacent to Gaza, prompting suspicions that Egypt is preparing to receive an influx of Palestinian refugees from the Gaza Strip.
The images, published by The Associated Press and The New York Times, lend credence to a report this week from the Sinai Foundation for Human Rights, which quoted local contractors saying they had been hired to build a large, enclosed area with 7-meter-high (23-feet-high) walls.
The Egyptian government has not commented publicly on the reports.
The satellite images show a large stretch of graded land and construction on what appears to be a high concrete wall. Reports on the size of the planned enclosure range from 5 square kilometers (3.11 square miles) to 20 square kilometers (12.4 square miles).

A contractor and an engineer, who spoke and provided photos of the work to The New York Times, said they had begun work on February 5 and started on the wall two days ago.
The Sinai Foundation, an independent nongovernmental organization monitoring and documenting human rights conditions in the Sinai Peninsula, said in its report Monday that the work was undertaken by local companies and subcontracted by the Sons of Sinai construction company owned by businessman Ibrahim Al-Arajani.
It said the work “is intended to create a high-security gated and isolated area near the borders with the Gaza Strip, in preparation for the reception of Palestinian refugees in the case of (a) mass exodus.”
The foundation quoted Muhannad Sabry, a researcher on Sinai affairs and security in Egypt, saying the work provides “serious signs that Egypt may be preparing to accept and allow the displacement of the population of Gaza to Sinai, in coordination with Israel and the United States.”
The AP said that satellite images, taken Thursday by Maxar Technologies, show cranes, trucks and what appear to be precast concrete barriers being set up along a road some 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) west of the border with Gaza.
The news agency cited a Wall Street Journal report that quoted unnamed Egyptian officials describing “an 8-square-mile (13-square-kilometer) walled enclosure” being built in the area that could accommodate over 100,000 people.

The AP said the Egyptian government did not respond to its requests for comment Friday, and there has been no public acknowledgment of the work by the government.
Cairo has insisted since the beginning of Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip that it would not allow Palestinian civilians threatened by the war to seek refuge in Egypt, citing security concerns. The area has seen several kidnappings and terrorist incidents in recent years.
Analysts also suspect that Egypt is motivated by fears that if the Palestinians were allowed across the border, Israel would not let them back into Gaza once the war ends.
Such fears are not without foundation. Israel’s Misgav Institute for National Security and Zionist Strategy issued a paper early in the war saying the conflict presented a “unique and rare opportunity to evacuate the whole Gaza Strip.”
Hard-line officials within Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government have also raised that possibility, according to the AP, although Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was quoted by the agency Friday as saying his government has no such plan.
“The state of Israel has no intention of evacuating Palestinian civilians to Egypt,” Gallant told reporters. “We respect and value our peace agreement with Egypt, which is a cornerstone of stability in the region as well as an important partner.”

Nevertheless, concern is rising over the fate of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who have been pushed by the war into a small area on the Gaza side of the Rafah gate into Egypt. Israel has warned that offensive operations in the Rafah area could begin soon.
Even if Israel does not try to force the Palestinians into Egypt, experts have warned of the possibility that mobs could storm the border crossing to escape the fighting, which began with a deadly Hamas terror attack into Israel on October 7.
"Undoubtedly [Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi] is worried that Israel will bomb the wall at Rafah, causing a flood of hungry and terrified Palestinians to sweep into Egypt,” said Joshua Landis, head of the Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Oklahoma
Noting that Egypt is already struggling to feed its 100 million citizens, Landis told VOA that “by building an extra containment wall, Egypt is announcing to the world and Israel that it will not become the solution to Israel's Palestinians problem."
Palestinian fears of being pushed into the Sinai desert were posted on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Thursday by Gaza-based journalist, Bisan Owda.
“We will die in the desert because of hunger. If they displace us to north of Egypt to Sinai desert, we will just die. We will die,” she said in an audio recording.

Israel on Monday launched at least two airstrikes on the town of Ghaziyeh on the outskirts of Lebanon's southern city of Sidon, for the first time since the beginning of cross-border hostilities with the Iran-backed Hezbollah group.
One of the strikes hit a warehouse used to manufacture tires and generators. The other fell in the vicinity of a stone marble factory. Both caused heavy damage and fires, according to the Lebanese state-run National News Agency.
Videos circulating on social media showed plumes of smoke billowing in the sky amid the sound of explosions.

Echoing George W. Bush on 9/11, a Misgav Institute report shows how political leaders find a chilling silver lining in the suffering of their own.​

THE MISGAV INSTITUTE for National Security & Zionist Strategy, an Israeli think tank, published a paper last week stating that thanks to the vicious Hamas attacks of October 7, “There is currently a unique and rare opportunity to evacuate the entire Gaza Strip.”
The paper continues, “There is no doubt that in order for this plan to be enacted, many conditions need to exist in parallel. At the moment, these conditions exist, and it is unclear when such an opportunity will arise again, if at all.” Approximately 1,400 Israelis were killed during the initial assault.

The Misgav Institute is headed by Meir Ben Shabbat. Ben Shabbat served four years as Israel’s chief of staff for national security after being appointed to the position in 2017 by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He previously was a senior official in Shin Bet, the approximate equivalent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the U.S. Other former top members of the Israeli government have also held prominent positions at the institute, as Mondoweiss explains.

This specific language — right-wing leaders enthusing about the “opportunity” that arises from massive suffering of their own people — is a kind of macabre universal following eruptions of ultraviolence.
On September 19, 2001, then-President George W. Bush proclaimed, “Through my tears, I see opportunity.” Several months later, Bush’s national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, explained, “[T]his is a period not just of grave danger, but of enormous opportunity. Before the clay is dry again, America and our friends and our allies must move decisively to take advantage of these new opportunities.” There were 2,977 people who died at the World Trade Center and Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93.
Osama bin Laden also used language similar to that of the Misgav Institute — to describe the invasion of Iraq by the U.S. and its allies. In 2004, bin Laden said in an audio message, “Targeting America in Iraq in terms of economy and losses in life is a golden and unique opportunity. Do not waste it only to regret it later.” Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were killed during the conflict.

Israel’s War on Gaza​

For Netanyahu’s part, he spoke in 2002 of the “golden opportunity” presented by the Al Qaeda bombing of a hotel in Mombasa, Kenya. In that attack, 13 people were killed, including Israeli brothers Noy and Dvir Anter, ages 12 and 13. CNN reported at the time that “screaming children covered in blood searched desperately for their parents amid the wreckage.”
While he used different words, Netanyahu also saw a bright future on September 11, 2001, when he was working in the private sector after his first period as prime minister. Asked by the New York Times what the attacks meant for U.S.–Israeli relations, he responded, “It’s very good.” Netanyahu then walked back his first remarks, saying, “Well, not very good, but it will generate immediate sympathy.” At that moment, it was believed that far more people, about 20,000, had been killed at the World Trade Center than later turned out to be the case.
As this all demonstrates, while the deaths of regular human beings are an unmitigated catastrophe for them and their families, our leaders often see a silver lining in our pain — a chance to do what they had always wanted to but had not been able to before.

Sixty-six bundles of food drifting on parachutes onto the beach of Gaza on March 2nd made for an incongruous sight after five months of war: as Israel dropped American-made bombs on Gaza, America’s air force dropped ready-meals. The aid operation, conducted jointly with Jordan and repeated on March 5th, symbolised not the power of America, but its frustration at its limited ability to influence Israel’s fight against Hamas.
President Joe Biden has sharpened his tone towards Israel of late, saying he would accept “no excuses” for delays in increasing humanitarian supplies to Gaza. He faces growing pressure, at home and abroad, over the appalling toll of the war, not least the mass displacement of Gaza’s population, the death of thousands of civilians, and spreading hunger and illness.

وسلط بايدن، في مقابلة شديدة اللهجة مع القناة الأمريكية، الضوء على المخاوف الأمريكية العميقة بشأن مقتل المدنيين في غزة، وأكد أن رئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتنياهو يضر إسرائيل ومصالحها أكثر مما ينفعها، ووصف عملية الجيش الإسرائيلي المخطط لها في رفح بجنوب غزة بأنها "خط أحمر"، وفق ما نقل التقرير.

وعندما سُئل عما إذا كان هذا يجب أن يكون بدعوة من رئيس الوزراء بنامين نتنياهو أو الرئيس إسحاق هرتسوغ، أجاب بايدن: "أفضل عدم مناقشة الأمر أكثر".
ورأت الصحيفة أن المقابلة شهدت المرة الأولى التي يكشف فيها بايدن عن أي نية لاتخاذ هذه الخطوة بعيدة المدى (مخاطبة الكنيست)، وكذلك استمراره في استخدام خطاب أكثر عدوانية ضد إسرائيل. وقد تكثفت هذه اللغة منذ 29 فبراير/شباط، عندما قُتل عشرات الفلسطينيين أثناء محاولتهم جمع المساعدات الإنسانية في مدينة غزة، حيث انهار القانون والنظام وسط ظروف يائسة، وفق التقرير.

وأضاف التقرير:"أكد الرئيس أن نتنياهو يؤذي إسرائيل أكثر مما يساعدها، وبدا أنه يكرر الحجة التي قدمها في الماضي بأن رئيس الوزراء يخسر معركة الرأي العام في جميع أنحاء العالم، قبل أن يقفز لإثارة نقطة مختلفة - وهو الأمر الذي حدث عدة مرات في المقابلة".
وتابع التقرير: "وبالانتقال إلى خططه لما بعد الحرب، قال بايدن إنه يعمل، أولاً، على تأمين وقف لإطلاق النار لمدة ستة أسابيع، ونأمل أن يكون ذلك بحلول شهر رمضان، الذي يبدأ يوم الإثنين".
ورصد تقرير الصحيفة الإسرائيلية تقلبا وتراجعا في تصريحات بايدن خلال المقابلة، إذ وصف خطط إسرائيل بتنفيذ هجوم بري على مدينة رفح بأنها خط أحمر، "ولكن بعد ذلك بدا وكأنه يتراجع قائلا: لن أتخلى عن إسرائيل أبدا. الدفاع عن إسرائيل لا يزال حاسما. ليس هناك خط أحمر سأقطع عنده أسلحتنا (عن إسرائيل) حتى لا يكون لديهم القبة الحديدية (نظام الدفاع الصاروخي) لحمايتهم".

وأخيرا نختتم جولتنا من صحيفة العرب، ومقال بعنوان "خط بايدن الأحمر بشأن غزة.. زلة لسان أم ضجر من نتنياهو؟"
يتناول المقال المقابلة المشار إليها سابقا للرئيس بايدن مع قناة "إم إس إن بي سي" والتي وصف فيها هجوما إسرائيليا واسع النطاق على رفح بأنه خط أحمر.
جاء في التقرير: "قال بايدن: هذا خط أحمر، لكنه سرعان ما تراجع عن ذلك قائلا إنه لا يوجد خط أحمر و"لن أتخلى عن إسرائيل قط". وأضاف "الدفاع عن إسرائيل يبقى ذا أهمية قصوى. فلا خط أحمر أريد من خلاله وقف شحنات الأسلحة بالكامل"، إذ عندها لن يكون الإسرائيليون "محميين بالقبّة الحديدية".
واستدرك بايدن قائلا "هناك خطوط حُمر... فمن غير الممكن أن يموت 30 ألف فلسطيني آخرين".
وقال بايدن: "هناك وسائل أخرى للتعامل مع الصدمة التي سببتها حماس"، في إشارة إلى الهجوم الذي نفذته الحركة في السابع من أكتوبر/تشرين الأول في جنوب إسرائيل، والذي تقول إسرائيل إنه أدى إلى مقتل 1200 شخص.
وبحسب موقع أكسيوس الأميركي، فإن تصريحات بايدن في المقابلة تعتبر علامة أخرى على أن صبر الرئيس تجاه حكومة نتنياهو بدأ ينفد، حسب المقال.
وشدد الرئيس الأميركي على أن نتنياهو "يجب أن يولي المزيد من الاهتمام للأرواح البريئة التي تزهق نتيجة الإجراءات المتخذة".
وقال بايدن: "جلستُ مع الرجل (نتنياهو) وقلتُ له 'انظر، لا تكرر الخطأ ذاته الذي ارتكبته الولايات المتحدة. الولايات المتحدة ارتكبت خطأ (رغم) أننا لاحقنا (أسامة) بن لادن حتى وصلنا إليه، لكن لم يكن يتوجب علينا أن ندخل العراق وأفغانستان. لم يكن ذلك ضروريا، وتسبب بمشاكل أكثر من حلها".
واعتبر المقال أن حديث بايدن المتناقض، والذي سرعان ما تراجع عنه، يثير تساؤلات حول ما إذا كانت تلك التصريحات زلة لسان جديدة للرئيس الأمريكي، الذي باتت تطارده تلك الزلات مؤخرا، وتكدر طريقه نحو البيت الأبيض.

Joe Gave Up on Bibi​

After decades of building a “close, personal” friendship with Benjamin Netanyahu, Joe Biden has had it with the Israeli prime minister. Now he’s hitting him hard — and it may be working.

The last time Joe Biden and Benjamin Netanyahu got into a public spat as ugly as this one was 14 years ago. In March 2010, Biden traveled to Jerusalem to push President Barack Obama’s ambitious peace plans on Netanyahu — the prime minister whom the then-vice president, upon landing, called his “close, personal friend of over 33 years.” Obama wanted a freeze on construction of Israeli settlements in the West Bank to avoid depriving the Palestinians of land for a future state as U.S. special envoy George Mitchell restarted Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. But upon Biden’s arrival, Netanyahu’s government suddenly announced the construction of 1,600 new Israeli apartments in the disputed territory. This humiliated and enraged Biden, who retaliated by keeping his close personal friend “Bibi” waiting for an hour and a half at dinner that night.
Biden publicly criticized Netanyahu for the move, but he also insisted that things be smoothed over, pressing Obama not to turn the contretemps into a major incident. The current dispute between the two men is very different.



In recent weeks, after months of Netanyahu openly defying Biden’s calls for restraint in Gaza, the president launched an unprecedented and very public pressure campaign. He slapped sanctions on Israeli settlers and settlements. He invited Netanyahu’s chief rival, Benny Gantz, to the White House to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris. He issued a National Security Council memo suggesting that military aid to Israel should be conditioned on the delivery of humanitarian aid. And he told MSNBC that Netanyahu was “hurting Israel more than helping Israel,” all the while reportedly fuming in private about what an “asshole” Netanyahu had become.

Earlier this month, after his State of the Union speech, Biden said it was finally time to have a “come to Jesus” talk with Netanyahu, and in recent days he praised Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for effectively advocating Netanyahu’s ouster.
What changed? A lot obviously — not least that the post-Oct. 7 crisis is far worse than anything Israel and the U.S. have faced before, especially with 1,200 Israelis and nearly 32,000 Palestinians dead (according to the Gaza health ministry), famine looming, the entire Mideast about to blow up, and Biden’s reelection threatened.

But it is also apparent that Biden and his administration believe that Netanyahu has played the United States for far too long. And while Biden has built up huge credibility with the Israeli public over the decades, the same is not true of the Israeli leader’s stature in Washington — especially within the Biden administration. After months of being ignored and defied, Biden now recognizes that he may have put too much stock in his personal relationship with his old pal Bibi.





“For Biden, as an old school politician, personal relationships are how you get stuff done. Sometimes it is. But at some point, with someone like Netanyahu, you have to take the measure of this guy and realize relationships don’t mean anything to him,” says Matt Duss, executive vice president at the Center for International Policy and former foreign-policy advisor to Sen. Bernie Sanders. “Biden seems to have been taking way too long to figure that out.”

The president is also facing a serious rebellion from his own Democratic Party, led largely by Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, who in February sponsored an amendment conditioning any future aid to Israel on opening up humanitarian corridors. The Van Hollen amendment in turn led to the NSC memo. In an interview with POLITICO Magazine this week, Van Hollen said he hasn’t seen enough effort yet by Biden to make that stick, and he believes the administration is internally divided on how tough to get with Netanyahu.
“There are some in the administration that want to ignore the requirement that Israel’s assurances [of permitting humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza] be credible and reliable,” Van Hollen said. “The Biden administration needs to demonstrate it’s serious by assuring there’s some accountability behind the president’s words. Their credibility is really on the line. Hundreds of thousands of people are on the verge of starvation.”
Asked to comment, a senior administration official said the administration needs to see more assistance from the Israelis, but he believes they have been responding to the new U.S. pressure tactics. One sign is that they have opened up new road crossings in the north, raising the average number of aid trucks getting through to Gaza to 197 a day in March, the highest number since the Oct. 7 crisis began. The bigger issue, the official said, is preventing the Israelis from backsliding. “We’ve seen humanitarian aid surge, and then it stops,” he said.

One by one over the decades, American presidents have decided they’ve had enough of Bibi Netanyahu, Israel’s longest serving prime minister, whose arrogance is legendary. Obama hated his guts, agreeing with then-French President Nicolas Sarkozy during a hot-mic moment in 2011 that Netanyahu couldn’t be trusted. “I can’t stand him. He’s a liar,” Sarkozy said. Obama replied, “You’re tired of him; what about me? I have to deal with him every day.” Bill Clinton felt pretty much the same. “Netanyahu was nearly insufferable, lecturing us and telling us how to deal with the Arabs,” former U.S. negotiator Dennis Ross wrote in his 2004 memoir, The Missing Peace, recalling Netanyahu’s first visit to the White House as prime minister. “After Netanyahu was gone, Clinton observed: ‘He thinks he is the superpower, and we are here to do whatever he requires.’” The one exception was Donald J. Trump, who simply handed Netanyahu pretty much everything he wanted.

Biden, however, was different from his predecessors in one important way. He and Netanyahu were genuine friends — Biden was “part of our mishpucha,” Netanyahu once said, using the Yiddish word for “family” — having first shared a meal more than 40 years ago when Biden was a junior senator from Delaware and Netanyahu was a deputy chief of mission in Washington. And while Netanyahu, with his sonorous perfect English, built his reputation in Israeli politics by contending he was the only one who could handle the Americans, Biden also long thought he had an edge in handling Netanyahu. Biden loved to joke about their cantankerous, complicated relationship. Even as Obama fumed over Netanyahu’s behavior, Biden declared, in a 2014 speech before the Jewish Federations of North America, that he and Netanyahu were “still buddies,” and he recalled that he had once inscribed a photo for Netanyahu with the words: “Bibi, I don’t agree with a damn thing you say, but I love you.” Over and over, Biden declared himself a passionate “Zionist” — “This place, it gets in your blood, it never really lets you go,” he said during that visit to Israel in 2010 — and he was vocal in advocating for Israel’s right to defend itself as it saw fit. Indeed, in 1992, after years in which then-Secretary of State James Baker publicly criticized Israel’s hard-line prime minister, Yitzhak Shamir, for his resistance to negotiations, Biden delivered a speech to AIPAC that might be called the anti-Schumer address: “The absurd notion that publicly vilifying Israel will somehow change its policy — who in the hell do we think we’re dealing with?” Biden said then.

All of which helps explain why, 10 days after Israel’s Oct. 7 catastrophe, Biden flew to Jerusalem and gave Netanyahu a big bear hug, declaring his unconditional support while urging Netanyahu not to overreact and turn Oct. 7 into Israel’s Iraq war. For a while that measured approach seemed to be working, especially in restraining Netanyahu from attacking Hezbollah in the north. In an interview with me in early February, a senior administration official calmly insisted that the Israelis “have recognized the need to shift from a high intensity operation to lower intensity in Gaza. We also concur with them that this is the logical next step.”
But the shift never really happened, and images of the bodies of Palestinian children being lined up on the ground, and the desperate search for food, began to take over the narrative — especially as voters in several Democratic primaries registered huge protest votes against Biden. Widespread famine in Gaza could occur by the end of May as “1.1 million people, half of Gaza, experience catastrophic food insecurity,” according to an assessment just released by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, a global partnership that studies food shortages. Biden desperately needs Israeli cooperation as he sets up a promised shipping pier and pushes for new food supply corridors by land. Above all, Biden and his top officials, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, have grown increasingly frustrated that Netanyahu and his war cabinet seem to have no future vision for Gaza other than to slaughter a lot more Palestinians. While Blinken flew repeatedly around the region rounding up Saudi and other Arab support for some kind of two-state solution or, at the very least, a revived Palestinian Authority, Netanyahu refused to consider any of it.
“Biden has always prided himself on being someone who can work with people. He is able to swallow a lot of insults that most people can’t,” says his former Senate aide Jonah Blank, a foreign policy expert. “That helps explain why he’s taken more from Netanyahu than most people would be willing to do. Every politician has always seen Netanyahu as a colossal jerk. He was always known to be untrustworthy. But in the past five months he’s gone from being a jerk you can’t rely on to being someone you can’t work with.”

It’s not yet clear that Biden’s new tack is working, but there are some encouraging signs that the ever-defiant Netanyahu may be wavering, at least slightly. The week after Schumer’s stunning Senate address saying Netanyahu had “lost his way” and was an obstacle to peace and calling for new Israeli elections, Biden and Bibi finally had their “come to Jesus” talk. Despite Biden’s previous statement that a major ground incursion into Rafah, Hamas’s last stronghold, is a “red line” for him, Netanyahu defiantly told the Knesset the day after the phone call — their first in a month — that he was still planning to do so. But he later said it will “take some time” before the Rafah operation can be launched, and “out of respect” for Biden he was considering new humanitarian corridors for aid because “we of course share this desire to allow an orderly exit of the population and provide aid to the civilian population.” Netanyahu also agreed to send a team of Israeli officials to Washington to lay out in detail, apparently for the first time, what the Americans hope will be a more surgical move into Rafah “that would target key Hamas elements in Rafah and secure the Egypt-Gaza border without a major ground invasion,” as Sullivan put it earlier this week.







Such a scaled-down operation should be possible, according to the Biden administration, because of the huge amount of intelligence Israelis have gathered on Hamas positions since their forces went into Gaza City and Khan Yunis, having penetrated Hamas’s tunnel network. But U.S. officials say the Israelis have not yet presented any military plan whatever to Washington — though they speak at least several times a day — and the administration remains worried the Netanyahu government will continue its scorched-earth approach, creating a whole new crisis between Israel, its U.S. ally, and the rest of the world.

Officials worry that because of Rafah’s dense civilian population of some 1.3 million and the border with Egypt — which has warned Israel against hostilities that might cross into its territory — ridding the city of Hamas poses a much greater military challenge than Gaza City or Khan Yunis did, with more potential for civilian deaths in the event of a major assault. Sullivan was blunt this week in saying that “Israel has not presented us or the world with a plan for how or where they would safely move those civilians, let alone feed and house them and ensure access to basic things like sanitation.”
For Biden, it’s all been a slow awakening. “After Oct. 7, Biden decided he needed to show his support in the most personal way. So phase one — long and perhaps too long — was the assumption that support and good will in word and deed would be rewarded,” says Nimrod Novik, a former senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres. The Biden team then “took the gloves off in a very incremental and disjointed way. There were the sanctions on settlers, then settlements, then the NSC memo. I think the turning point, ironically, was the visit of Benny Gantz, when [Biden’s team] reached the conclusion that what is called for is a very different approach. That was when the ‘come to Jesus’ moment took place, and I think it proved effective.”
Some Netanyahu opponents like Novik believe Biden’s pressure could make a critical difference. “It means that rather than a major operation in Rafah in the coming days or weeks, I think we’re going to see the encircling of Rafah. Insulating it from Egypt to prevent smuggling in and out and starting the process of easing the Palestinian population back to the north in a very controlled way, while doing some reconstruction in the north and urging Israel to use this time gap between now and Rafah to flood the [Gaza] Strip with humanitarian assistance,” said Novik, who is now with the Israel Policy Forum.

Last week Netanyahu’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, delivered a letter to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jacob Lew saying Israel would comply with the demands laid out in Biden’s NSC memorandum from Feb. 8, which made humanitarian aid and the observance of international law a condition for future military assistance. But some, like Van Hollen, believe those words are hollow and are urging Blinken to resist “certifying” Israeli compliance, which he would need to do in the next few days. (The administration would then have 45 days to determine whether Israel is following through on its commitments.)





David Makovsky, a long-time Israel watcher at the Washington Institute for Near East Peace, says he also believes that Biden’s pressure is beginning to tell on Netanyahu. Another factor, he says, is that Netanyahu is deeply unpopular at home, opinion is shifting dramatically in both Israel and the American Jewish community, and Biden’s deep credibility on the issue is helping. “It’s been a one-two punch against Netanyahu: the humanitarian crisis and the lack of articulating a vision beyond victory. More and more Israelis and Americans see that the way to prosecute this is to do it the way Biden does,” said Makovsky, who is currently consulting in Israel. “If you want to beat Hamas, you have to beat it with a more compelling idea. You can’t beat it with nothing.”
The larger awakening for Biden and his administration, however, has been to realize that an increasingly desperate Netanyahu may no longer be acting in Israel’s interests as much as his own — he faces a slew of corruption charges that could land him in prison once he leaves office — and that for too long Washington has been nurturing Netanyahu’s delusions. One reason for Netanyahu’s current unpopularity in Israel — his approval numbers are hovering below 20 percent — is that many Israelis realize that he laid the groundwork for Oct. 7 by pursuing a policy of ignoring and sidelining the Palestinian issue for years.

Netanyahu pursued a grand strategy of normalizing relations with Arab states under the so-called Abraham Accords, and he boasted privately that he had “de facto put an end to the Oslo Accords.” Long before the Oct. 7 attacks, his draconian policies turned Gaza into what Human Rights Watch calls “the world’s largest open-air prison,” and he deceived himself that Israel would be safe behind its Iron Dome anti-missile system and fencing along the Gaza border. During his more than 16 years on-and-off as prime minister, Netanyahu’s various governments also deliberately weakened Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas — who wanted to negotiate — while strengthening Hamas, which vowed Israel’s destruction. Why? So Netanyahu wouldn’t have to negotiate a state, according to Novik and other Israeli opponents of Israel’s hard-right government.
For a while, at least, Biden more or less went along with Netanyahu’s approach — especially after the administration of George W. Bush, pursuing its quixotic democracy agenda, insisted on Palestinian elections in 2006 and the vote brought Hamas to power, permanently dividing the Palestinian population. Former aides say that, after the Palestinians repeatedly frustrated Biden by turning down one deal for statehood after another — and then began vicious infighting in the mid-2000s — Biden finally got fed up with them.

“He always felt the Palestinians couldn’t organize a two-car funeral,” said Mike Haltzel, a former senior aide to Biden when he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “He said, ‘Fuck them, I’ve had it with them. If they can’t even get along with each other, how are they going to get along with the Israelis?’”







But this all blew up in everyone’s faces in the most horrific way last October. Now the U.S. mantra once again is: Defeat Hamas, certainly — but find a way to give the Palestinians something resembling statehood. But the Israelis aren’t even close to having that discussion. According to the senior administration official, the single biggest source of “extreme frustration with the Israeli side” is the lack of any credible day-after plan for governance. Yet more moderate members of Netanyahu’s cabinet, such as Gantz, are resisting U.S. efforts to install a revived version of the Palestinian Authority. He added that the absence of any kind of transitional Palestinian authority or security inside Gaza is also holding up distribution of aid and creating chaos as convoys are sometimes mobbed.

When it comes to the Israelis and Palestinians — two peoples who seek, impossibly, to occupy the same point on the map — the same issues just seem to recycle themselves. Today the open rupture between the U.S. and Israeli governments is probably the worst since at least 1989, when the George H.W. Bush administration began pushing hard for negotiations with the Palestinians. Baker stunned AIPAC by calling on Israel to abandon its “unrealistic vision of a Greater Israel” that included Gaza and the West Bank and, in later remarks to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, gave then-Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir the White House phone number, 1-202-456-1414, saying, “When you’re serious about peace, call us.” In one of the very few times that Washington threatened to withhold aid, Baker also bluntly warned Shamir that unless Israel stopped building Jewish settlements in occupied territories, it would not get $10 billion in U.S. loan guarantees to help resettle hundreds of thousands of immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

That was ugly, but it also set the Oslo peace process in motion, and when Shamir lost the election to Yitzhak Rabin in 1992, the issue of Israeli settlements and loan guarantees, along with worries that Israel was losing American support, were a factor in the voting. Rabin became a fervent advocate for Oslo — until he was assassinated in 1995 by a right-wing Israeli militant.

Could some kind of similar breakthrough happen today, where American pressure finally makes a difference? With the new tack by Biden, Netanyahu’s old claim that he’s the only one who can deal with the Americans is no longer credible. But with the war in Gaza still raging and the Israeli population still traumatized by Oct. 7 and the ongoing hostage crisis, Netanyahu is under no immediate pressure to call new elections. And being Bibi, he’s unlikely to want to appear to cave to Biden. Beyond that, administration officials point out that the problem goes way beyond Netanyahu, since his entire war cabinet is united in wanting to move into Rafah. On Thursday, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said he plans to invite Netanyahu to address Congress — a defiant move that harks back to 2015, when the prime minister gave a speech to Congress inveighing against the Iran nuclear deal.






That speech enraged both Obama and Biden. But after Trump was elected the following year, he effectively did Netanyahu’s bidding by pulling out of the nuclear pact. (Iran is now closer to building a nuclear weapon than ever before based on the amount of uranium it has enriched, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.)

It remains unclear, at the moment, whether the Biden administration plans to ratchet up the pressure even more. But in recent days the war of words has gotten downright nasty. After Netanyahu complained on CNN about American interference in Israeli politics, Sullivan retorted that it was “an interesting irony” because Netanyahu himself over the years has done the same in U.S. politics and “in fact, we don’t do nearly as much as they [do].” In the 2020 election, Biden was angered by Netanyahu’s support for Trump and didn’t end up calling Netanyahu until a month after he entered office in January 2021.

“If I were advising him right now, I’d say, sir, this is a moral issue, and there is no scenario in which Netanyahu is going to be a credible partner,” says Blank. “So here a few different things you can do if you decide to get tougher.” Biden could start out with an Oval Office address laying out a new course and then suggest that the United States might no longer automatically veto a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire. Biden could also decide not to pursue Israeli normalization with Saudi Arabia, which Riyadh wants to be conditioned on a defense pact with Washington (and which Netanyahu badly desires, since it would amount to long-sought recognition of Israel by the wealthiest Arab state and the so-called “Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques”).

Such a showdown may be in the offing. According to Axios, one U.S. official says that an Israeli ground operation in Rafah could prompt Washington, for the first time, to allow passage of a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. Already under Biden the U.S. has abstained from a resolution calling for more humanitarian aid in Gaza. Abstaining from the next vote on a ceasefire would send an unmistakable message.



But that may mean playing with political fire at a time when many polls show Biden losing to Trump in November. Biden has to worry about both sides of the issue. In the 1992 election, after pressing Israel hard, George H.W. Bush received just 15 percent of the Jewish vote, the lowest percentage obtained by a Republican presidential candidate since Barry Goldwater in 1964. At the same time, however, Biden may decide that the threat from progressives unhappy about his uncompromising support for Israel could hurt him in key swing states with large Arab-American populations like Michigan and Pennsylvania. Biden’s geopolitical standing is in danger, too, as Israel grows more isolated, with several nations including Canada, Holland and Denmark considering a total cut-off in military aid.

Still, Biden’s decision-making could be helped along by Trump, whose rhetoric about the Middle East is getting more and more wild. In an interview this week, Trump awkwardly characterized critics of Netanyahu as people who “hate Israel. And the Democrat party hates Israel.” But Trump then went on to say that “any Jewish person that votes for Democrats hates their religion,” eliciting sharp criticism from the Anti-Defamation League and other Jewish groups as well as groans from his fellow Republicans.





Blinken, along with others in the Biden administration, remains hopeful that, Bibi or no Bibi, the current crisis presents a huge opportunity for Israel, the U.S. and the entire region. “I think as dark as this moment is, there’s also a tremendous opportunity — maybe even a unique opportunity,” Blinken told Al Hadath, a Saudi news outlet, in an interview Wednesday. “Because while there have been many efforts to make peace in the past — I was involved in some of them — what’s different now is that virtually every country in the region would like to actually integrate Israel, normalize relations for those that haven’t, and in effect help Israel provide for its own security. But that requires a resolution to the Palestinian question and particularly a Palestinian state, and, of course, it requires an end to the military operations in Gaza.”

One thing seems certain: Neither Biden nor Netanyahu is likely to back down entirely any time soon. “A lot of people don’t understand how tough Biden can be,” says Haltzel. “He can be a real hard ass. He’s a politician, and he knows how far he can compromise without fatally hurting his political standing. Don’t forget: This is a guy who’s never lost an election.”

But that may be small consolation to some critics, especially the rising tide of dissidents in Biden’s own party. “This is a very important moment,” says Van Hollen. “The president has been more outspoken and more publicly critical of the actions of the Netanyahu government. The president has repeatedly asked the Israelis to open up more. But the real question is, at what point is the Biden administration willing to back up that request with accountability?”

US weighs selling new fighter jets, missiles and guidance kits to Israel​

Some of the weapons could take years to arrive in Israel, but the move comes as the administration faces pressure to condition arms transfers.

The U.S. government is considering major new weapons sales to Israel of fighter jets, air-to-air missiles and guidance kits, as calls grow for the U.S. to withhold arms if Israel won’t do more to limit civilian casualties in Gaza.
The Biden administration is weighing selling Israel up to 50 new F-15 fighter jets, 30 AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles, and a number of Joint Direct Attack Munition kits, which turn dumb bombs into precision-guided weapons, according to a congressional aide and a person familiar with the discussions. The people were granted anonymity to speak ahead of an announcement.



While the sale is still pending U.S. government approval — and it will be years before the weapons arrive in Israel — the administration has already informally notified the relevant congressional committees, according to the congressional aide. That step typically means the administration is ready to move forward with the sale.




The F-15 sale alone is valued at up to $18 billion and was notified to the committees in February, according to the congressional aide.
A Defense Department spokesperson referred questions to the State Department. A State Department spokesperson said the department does not comment on potential future sales.
News of the potentially pending agreements comes as critics inside and outside the U.S. government say President Joe Biden has a responsibility to limit weapons sales to Israel as the death toll rises in Gaza. Even members of Biden’s party have recently criticized Israel harshly for its operations in the enclave. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer , the highest-ranking Jewish official in the U.S. government and historically a strong ally of Israel, last month called for new Israeli elections, prompting outrage from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
It also comes amid a rift among Democrats about whether Biden should leverage arms sales in his efforts to pressure Netanyahu not to launch a large-scale invasion of the southern city of Rafah, where more than 1 million civilians are sheltering from fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants in the north.
Hamas still holds over 100 Israeli hostages — the majority of them civilians — after snatching them during its Oct. 7 assault on Israeli towns, and officials are negotiating swapping hostages for Palestinian prisoners.







Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) has said that blocking sales of offensive weapons, something Biden has been reluctant to do, should be under consideration.
Josh Paul, who resigned from the State Department in protest over America’s continued lethal assistance to Israel, said the consummation of the deal would be “further proof” that the administration is unwilling to take a tough tack with Netanyahu.
“I think for all the president’s talk of wanting to restrain Israel’s operations in Rafah, this is continuing evidence that in practice, the administration continues to move on transfers for Israel, regardless of the situation on the ground in Gaza and the political context in the U.S.,” Paul said. “It is committed to its support for Israel, and this is proof of that.”
An Israeli airstrike Monday destroyed the consular section of Iran’s embassy in Syria, killing a senior Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps officer and several other people, according to Syrian state media. The IRGC funnels weapons and conducts training for militant groups across the region.
Biden administration officials were expected to meet virtually with Israeli officials on Monday to discuss Israel’s plans for an operation in Rafah to root out the remnants of Hamas. U.S. officials have urged their Israeli counterparts in recent weeks not to mount a full-on ground offensive in the city, because more than 1 million civilians are sheltering there. Most of the Israeli hostages are also believed to be somewhere in the city.
U.S. officials have said publicly that they believe going into Rafah without a plan to protect those civilians would be a mistake.
The news that the Biden administration is weighing new weapons sales comes days after the Washington Post reported that the Biden administration was moving forward with a yearsold arms package for Israel, including more than 1,800 MK-84 2,000-pound bombs and 500 MK-82 500-pound bombs. Congress had been informed of parts of that package as long ago as 2008.
Like the F-15s and new munitions being weighed, those bombs won’t arrive in Israel for several years.

غريفيث: حرب غزة "خيانة للإنسانية" والنهاية طال انتظارها​

وصف وكيل الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة للشؤون الإنسانية ومنسق الإغاثة في حالات الطوارئ، مارتن غريفيث، مساء السبت، الحرب "الإسرائيلية" على قطاع غزة بأنها "خيانة للإنسانية".
وكتب غريفيث، في منشور على حسابه عبر منصة "إكس"، أن "نهاية حرب غزة طال انتظارها".
وتساءل المسؤول الأممي ألا يكفي 6 أشهر من الحرب حتى تكون هناك لحظة حداد لإحياء ذكرى الضحايا.
وشدد غريفيث على "ضرورة أن تحفز هذه الحرب التصميم الجماعي على محاسبة هذه الخيانة للإنسانية".
ومنذ 7 أكتوبر 2023، تشن "إسرائيل" حربا مدمرة على غزة خلّفت عشرات آلاف الضحايا المدنيين، معظمهم أطفل ونساء، ودمارا هائلا ومجاعة أودت بحياة أطفال ومسنين، وفق بيانات فلسطينية وأممية.
وتواصل "إسرائيل" الحرب رغم صدور قرار من مجلس الأمن الدولي يطالب بوقف فوري لإطلاق النار خلال شهر رمضان، وكذلك رغم مثولها للمرة الأولى أمام محكمة العدل الدولية بتهمة ارتكاب جرائم "إبادة جماعية".
